I have been working as a reading educator in elementary schools for the past four years, teaching small groups of students. I believe that all children deserve to have access to quality instruction so that they can build strong literacy skills. I work with students from diverse backgrounds and enjoy the challenge of adjusting my instructional methods and pacing to the needs of each student. I believe that a structured and systematic approach to teaching phonics is important for students who are learning how to decode words, but I also value the importance of language development, including vocabulary, syntax, and background knowledge, in order to help students comprehend what they are reading. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my teenage daughters and my husband, walking my dogs, reading for fun, and playing board games.
